Newark, NJ

Project Details

18th Avenue

Uncommon Schools acquired a 1.7-acre site, comprised of a four-story 35,000 sf masonry building and accessory facilities in addition to a site at 563-569 for parking. With KSS, Uncommon is renovating and constructing new additions to the existing buildings, continuing to build on a long-standing and highly collaborative relationship.

With experience in designing multiple North Star schools, KSS deliberately integrated consistency between past and present educational facilities to the project, offering guidance regarding aesthetics, general classroom layouts, and programming The program works seamlessly with Uncommon School’s mission of developing a “high expectations and no excuses” culture.

As another example of the renaissance of urban environments and deeply rooted in Newark, 571 18th Avenue supports the educational, civic, cultural and recreational activities of a thriving urban neighborhood. The school facility design conveys the Uncommon Schools identity, builds local community, and creates a true sense of social impact.
