Design Framework for Improved Donor Experience
B Positive Plasma collects high-quality blood plasma to be used in the creation of life-saving therapies. The company sought KSS’ expertise in design for the human experience, and tasked our team with the creation of a prototype which will be rolled out across more than 25 new Plasma Donation Centers throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. The design focuses on enhancing the donor experience by meeting project goals including maximizing program adjacencies, creating warm and welcoming spaces while using durable and resilient finishes and fixtures, and ensuring spaces function smoothly to accommodate quick turnaround of donors in a pleasant, comfortable setting.
For each location, the space plan prioritizes programmatic adjacencies to clearly define public and private space. Areas accessed by donors, including reception, exam rooms, donor bays, and recovery, are clustered near the entrance in a logical sequence. Private areas for staff such as offices and break rooms are located in a back of house space, providing employees separation from donors and an enjoyable working environment of their own. The design emphasizes wayfinding to clearly communicate the delineation of public and private space. Volumes of signature B Positive red and blue throughout the entire Donation Center unify the space and reinforce brand identity.
