Elevated, Streamlined Student Services
In line with master plan goals of a comprehensive campus that elevates students and advances University mission, Rutgers University—New Brunswick is repurposing Administrative Services Building I into a facility to support student services needs in a single, accessible, streamlined location. The ‘One Stop’ will be an accommodating and functional place at the intersection of admissions, registrar, financial aid, residence life, and IT.
The design team flipped the main entrance from its existing location—which disengaged it from campus—to capitalize on adjacency to the Busch Student Center. An added Rutgers-branded tower acts as a beacon, clearly communicating to students and visitors that they are on Rutgers’ campus. The plaza ties together the existing building with the topography while creating a hub where students can congregate.
A precedent for the One Stop typology, this project features a welcoming, sleek space. The design team worked closely with users, from office workers to cashiers, to design spaces that fulfill their unique needs. This resulted in custom millwork throughout the building including metal ceilings with custom millwork and perforations to mitigate acoustical concerns. White and red accents and use of the Rutgers logo throughout tie the three-story building together and reinforce University identity.
