Fashion Meets Finish

Architectural finishes met high fashion at Kean University’s STEM Building last week at the IIDA Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware Chapter’s second annual Fashion Meets Finish Gala.

The KSS interior design team was among the hundreds in attendance as models strutted their stuff down the runway for a good cause. Inspired by the night’s theme “Sinister Design” – 20 teams of interior design professionals and manufacturer representatives created over-the-top pieces of wearable art that prove couture has a dark side.

From tiles and flooring, to leather and fabric teams used a wide range of materials to create everything from dramatic dresses and gladiator-inspired outfits to other other-worldly “did you see that?” creations.

Judges included Shaun Killman, an artist and craftsman; Blanche Garcia, principal and interior designer at B. Garcia Designs in Montclair, NJ; and Austin Scarlett, fashion designer of Project Runway fame. All proceeds from the event were donated in support of local interior design programs and IIDA College Campus Centers in New Jersey.

I know I’ll never look at carpet samples and paint swatches in quite the same way again!
