2020 Year in Review: Reflection, celebration, & gratitude

2020 has undoubtedly been a challenging year for many, which makes us even more grateful for the achievements of our firm over this past year.

In 2020, KSS has…

…grown to a firm of nearly 80. Over the past year, 16 new employees have joined our team of dedicated design professionals eager to create built environments at the intersections of learning, commerce, and community.

elevated Mayva Donnon to partner. A 15-year KSS veteran, Mayva is an exceptional architect, leader, and mentor who empowers those around her to become leaders in their own right. As partner, Mayva’s guidance and design leadership will undoubtedly continue to elevate our employees and our firm.

…promoted 11 employees in recognition of their contributions to the firm. Jason Chmura, Sven Schroeter, and David von Stappenbeck were named principals; Ryan Bruce, Alicia Heinsen, and Mounir Tawadrous have been elevated to senior associate; and Ryan Drummond, Don Kim, Jessica Mangin, Becker Raab, and Jesse Wilks were promoted to associate.

celebrated the career of Partner Pamela Lucas Rew, FAIA who will retire at the end of this year. Pam has spent 30 of her 40 years in architecture at KSS, where she invested her time and talent in helping to grow the firm to a community of nearly 80 across three offices with projects across the country. Her visionary leadership has fostered a creative, collaborative practice with design excellence at its core.

…welcomed six little ones into the extended KSS family.

…won design awards for Foundation Collegiate Academy (Honor Award, AIA New Jersey), the Barbara Walters Campus Center (ACUI Facility Design Award),  and the Remy Theatre (Honor Award-Historic Preservation, AIA New Jersey; Design Award-Historic Preservation/Adaptive Reuse, AIA Philadelphia). Though situated in different communities, these projects represent our strongly held belief in the power of architecture to foster connections between people and place.

As we close out this unique year, we reflect on our collective efforts, celebrate what we have accomplished, and express gratitude for our community of clients, consultants, and collaborators, as well as our employees, family members, and friends. Together, through great architecture, we can create meaningful and lasting change that impacts our clients, our firm, and our world.
