Project Details

Hiering Science Building

KSS Architects designed the new science building to fulfill Ocean County College’s need for state-of-the-art laboratories and classrooms as well as room for growth. Each laboratory is customized for the special needs of a particular discipline, such as biology, anatomy/physiology, microbiology, ecology, chemistry, organic chemistry, and physics. Informal areas throughout the building give students engaging spaces to collaborate and study.

As the inaugural building of a new quadrangle, the building had to be sited carefully and strategically. It had to be visually and physically connected to the existing campus and allow for the placement of future buildings nearby. The site was chosen due to the rolling slopes leading toward the campus. The building design also capitalizes on the site’s proximity and views to the Atlantic Ocean.
